THE latest government data shows more than 30 people are being treated at St Mary's Hospital after contracting Covid-19.

The number of patients in hospital with the virus has fallen marginally since September 7.

Data correct on Tuesday, September 14, and published on Thursday, showed 32 people with coronavirus were being treated at the Newport hospital.

The week before, that number stood at 34.

Of the 32, four are currently being treated in specialist ventilation beds, down from nine the previous week.

Yesterday (Monday), it was revealed another person had died in hospital on the Isle of Wight after contracting Covid-19.

They are the 168th person to have died here since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, more than 40 new Isle of Wight Covid cases have been confirmed.

It means the Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, now stands at 11,128.
