THE number of patients with Covid being treated at St Mary's Hospital has fallen this week, government data has revealed.

But the number of patients currently being treated in a specialist ventilation bed has increased.

Data correct on Tuesday, October 5, and published today (Thursday) shows 19 people occupying a bed at the Newport hospital.

Of those in hospital, three are currently being treated in a specialist ventilation bed, up from one last week.

The most recent Covid hospital deaths were recorded last week, when two more were added to the Isle of Wight total.

These are deaths at St Mary's Hospital after contracting Covid-19 — the latest recorded on September 26 and 27.

In the community, two new deaths were recorded earlier this week.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures revealed two new community deaths in the last two weeks — both attributed to Covid-19.

More than 100 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight, according to the latest government data.

Children remain the most affected, with the government heatmap showing rates among ten to 14 year olds at 3,003.3.
