THE latest government data shows a decrease in the number of patients with Covid being treated at St Mary's Hospital.

Data correct on Tuesday, October 12, and published yesterday (Thursday) shows 16 people occupying a bed at the Newport hospital.

Of those in hospital, four are currently being treated in a specialist ventilation bed, up from three last week.

The most recent Covid hospital death was recorded earlier this week, when one more was added to the Isle of Wight total.

It means 176 people have now died at the Newport hospital since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the latest Office of National Statistics (ONS) data, Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificates of three people who have died on the Island after September 17.

More than 70 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed on the Isle of Wight yesterday, according to the latest data.
