THE ISLE of Wight Cricket Board (IWCB) Indoor League season got underway with exciting matches being played in Divisions 2 and 3, at Ventnor’s Rew Valley Sports Centre.

In Division 2, Shanklin B got off to a winning start against Ryde B, by five wickets last Sunday.

Boosted by first team skipper, Ben White, Shanklin restricted Ryde to 90, taking 2-12, alongside Norton Mew’s 2-18 with the ball.

Shanklin knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket, with White retiring on 29.

Island Bakeries also won, beating Ryde School by 51 runs.

Leo Nutter (28 not out), Kieran Annis (27 not out) and Ellis Ridett (25 not out) all retired as the Bakers notched up 166- 1.

Ryde’s Archie Lucy retired on 25, but they could only finish on 115-3.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, Northwood B got off to a winning start by racking up 141-2 against the Isle of Wight Disability side. Martyn Richards (32 not out), Tom Speer (27 not out) and Jeff Barrett (25 not out) were the main contributors.

Alfie Toulson batted sensibly for his for the Disability side — his side falling 75 runs short with 66-5.

Arreton also beat Island Bakeries B by five wickets.

The Bakers scored 114-2, with Tony Cook (28 not out) and Ben Smith (25 not out), but Arreton’s hard hitters knocked the runs off in nine overs for the loss of one wicket, with Dan Ward scoring 28 not out and Josh Gregory 27 not out.

This Sunday sees Division 1 get underway with all six teams in action.
