THE clinical lead of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Covid-19 vaccination programme has given some insight into its expansion.
It follows the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday (Sunday), that every adult will be offered a Covid-19 booster jab by December 31.
The target for giving every adult in England a booster jab has been brought forward over fears of a “tidal wave" of Omicron Covid cases.
Dr Matt Nisbet says it is great news that all over-18s will be able to get a booster by the end of December.
He says he can assure everyone that on the Isle of Wight, his team have enough supplies of the vaccine to give boosters to all those over the age of 18.
"It is, of course, going to take us a little bit of time to work our way through the cohorts as we've done in the past, and to expand our programme," said Dr Nisbet.
"Thank you for bearing with us. We will get round to you.
"It would be really helpful if people could not call their GP surgeries just yet, because it is going to take us a bit of time to expand that capacity.
"We look forward to giving you your booster soon, if you've not already had it."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in an address to the nation on Sunday evening, set a new deadline of jabbing everyone over-18 by the new year.
The announcement comes as the UK Covid alert level was raised to Level 4, up from Level 3.
