AN 18-YEAR-OLD's business, Emily’s Nails and Beauty, has been shortlisted in the UK Hair and Beauty Awards in the best new salon category.

Emily Salero, who is based in Newport, was not planning to get into the beauty business, always seeing it as more of a hobby since she was nine years old.

Learning beauty in high school and later applying to studying beauty therapy at college, her hobby started to form into a career.

In April 2021, Emily opened her home-based salon from a converted garage.

Emily said: “Although I have only just turned 18, I feel that I have already accomplished so much at such a young age.

“I have almost completed my second year at college studying beauty while undertaking extra training such as e-file and HD brow sculpt, all the while I have been running my business.”

Looking forward to the future, Emily hopes to achieve a teaching qualification and offer one-to-one nail art sessions.

She hopes to one day work with large brands and open a bigger salon that she could potentially use to teach up-and-coming beauty stars.

The UK Hair and Beauty Awards celebrate the industry, supporting businesses both big and small, exposing all candidates to new opportunities through social media, no matter their financial or social status.

The awards will take place on March 26, 2022.
