An Isle of Wight hospital patient died on January 13, after contracting Covid-19

It was the sixth hospital death so far in January and the 364th on the Island since the start of the pandemic, when deaths in the community are also factored in.

According to the latest available information, on Tuesday there were two people being treated in specialist ventilation beds at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

There were 829.9 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people on the Isle of Wight on January 8.

That represents a slight fall in positive tests for the Island, which still had the lowest rolling seven day average in England and the third lowest in the UK.

Since January 11, Islanders without Covid-19 symptoms, who test positive on a lateral flow test, have been required to self-isolate but have not needed to take a PCR test.

PCR tests are still required for people who show symptoms of Covid-19, as part of the temporary measures.

The change in rules has not yet been seen in the rolling average rate.

Meanwhile, at Freshwater Fire Station, a walk-in vaccination clinic is running until 5pm. Similar sessions will take place at other Isle of Wight fire stations next week.
