One could be forgiven for thinking our precious societal order is being eroded by the media.
A media that seems hell bent on destroying our royal family.
No sooner does Prince Andrew thoughtfully settled a civil lawsuit with a woman he doesn’t recall ever meeting, in order events do not drag on and distract from Her Majesty’s Jubilee year celebrations, the media launches into an attack on Prince Charles, reporting that the Metropolitan Police have started a ‘cash for honours’ probe into a Saudi billionaire donor receiving a knighthood and UK citizenship.
Does anyone really care if a knighthood and citizenship may have been given in exchange for a substantial charitable donation?
As for Prince Andrew, he by all accounts has had to sell his Swiss alpine chalet to raise funds, along with a donation from the Queen, to generously donate to Virginia Giuffre’s charity.
Why do we pretend to be so self-righteous? I mean isn’t all the handwringing over Russia and the Ukrainian a little hypocritical when it is widely acknowledged that the City of London is the money laundering capital of the world, not least for Russian oligarchs.
And as for Boris Johnson, if he receives a fixed penalty fine for a breach of Covid regulations in his Downing Street residence/office, who truly believes he won’t simply claim it as a cost on expenses?
So let’s not be hypocrites.
It is surely only right that any legal expenses, lawyers fees etc, incurred by Prince Andrew are met in full by the public purse.
Just accept this is how things work in our society, and move on.
