ISLE of Wight Round Table have donated £3,500 to fellow Island charity MAD-Aid, to help towards the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The donation covers the full logistical costs of sending an artic lorry full of aid across Europe, to be delivered to the refugee region on the border between Ukraine and Moldova.

Isle of Wight Round Table choose to work with East Cowes based MAD-Aid as they have a well-established track record of providing help directly to those in need in Eastern Europe and were already actively coordinating a rapid response to the situation.

MAD-Aid have been one of the major hubs collecting clothing, medical and hygiene supplies donated by Island residents over the past few weeks and have already sent several trucks to the region.

Due to the substantial costs incurred in transportation, the donation will support the logistics of the operation.

Edward Day, chairman of Isle of Wight Round Table, said: “We have all seen the horrific humanitarian crisis happening in Eastern Europe, so felt we had to do something.

"We usually donate directly to those in need, but in this situation we were unable to aid the people of Ukraine directly so wanted to team up with MAD-Aid.

"They are doing a fantastic job on the Island acting as a hub for the Ukraine effort. We hope that by assisting with the transportation of essential supplies we can do our part to relieve suffering.”
