The Easter holidays have arrived and with it two weeks of keeping the kids occupied.

Recent weather has shown fleeting promises of spring but the Isle of Wight has mostly felt rather chillier than that.

What everyone really wants to know is if this is set to continue and scupper plans for lots of family fun in the great outdoors.

Well, the answer is, it’s going to be a bit of a mixed bag. So, umbrellas and sunglasses at the ready, as the good old British weather strikes again.

Easter holiday Isle of Wight weather forecast

This week starts largely dry with spells of hazy sunshine, however it's possible there could be thicker cloud across western parts at times which may produce the odd shower.

The Met Office forecast predicts brisk winds to begin easing throughout the afternoon, feeling warmer with maximum temperatures of 17 °C.

From Tuesday, outbreaks of rain will start clearing north in the morning and it should be a largely dry day with sunny spells during the afternoon.

Some sunshine and scattered showers are expected for Wednesday with the chance of more cloud on Thursday, although remaining dry and getting increasingly warmer.

Looking further ahead to the weekend and next week, the period is likely to begin with rain moving east, easing as it does so, with early mist and fog.

Eastern and southern areas should expect mostly fine conditions with light winds although some light showers are possible across central southern areas.

However, as the week goes on, a northwest-southeast split of weather is likely to form, with the northwest remaining more changeable with strong winds and rain at times.

Some rain may occasionally spread into parts in the southeast at first but it is likely to turn dry and become generally much more settled, though perhaps rather cloudy, in the south.

The good news is, temperatures are expected to be above average, and even warm at times for those in the south.
