A MAN must pay his victim £750 after an assault.

Ian Phillips, 44, of Trinity Road, Ventnor, admitted wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent on August 19, 2021 in Ventnor.

He appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court for sentencing.

His guilty plea was taken into account as a mitigating factor, but the court heard he caused a "severe injury" to his victim, who was trying to help him.

He was given 16 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months, and must complete up to 15 rehabilitation days.

The custodial sentence was suspended because the defendant has some mental health difficulties for which he is receiving treatment.
