AN INVESTIGATION into an alleged sexual assault has concluded without any evidence the offence happened, police have said.

Cordons were put in place in the Vereker Drive area of East Cowes on Monday after the alleged offence was reported.

However, the investigation has now concluded.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We have now concluded our investigation after it was reported that a 13 year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a man she did not know in East Cowes on Monday.

"Following extensive enquiries in the area and obtaining further details we don’t currently believe that a criminal offence took place, based on the information provided."

Police had originally been called at 8.08am to a report that a 13-year-old girl has been 'inappropriately touched' by a man in his 20s, who she did not know.

It was originally believed the incident happened on Medina Road in Cowes, near the floating bridge, but the investigation then moved to a path between Hendy Road and Vereker Drive in East Cowes.
