SUSTAINABLE dental hygiene products helped an enterprising group of students represent the Isle of Wight in the Young Enterprise scheme.

The Smile Buddy group are from East Wight Sixth Form, on a mission to help the planet reduce plastic by providing consumers with affordable, sustainable dental hygiene products.

They are offering a bamboo toothbrush, corn starch floss picks and an information slip about the team and their product, all as a subscription service.

This means their customers are regularly changing their toothbrush to keep a healthy smile.

The students' determination to make a change from plastic to sustainable and to make a success of their business secured them as winners of the Island's Young Enterprise final.

They also went on to represent the Isle of Wight in the Hampshire finals.

They said: "We believe our hard work has resulted in growing a long standing and respected company and we are very thankful for the support that people have given us.

"We are thrilled to have been given this firsthand experience of running a business.

"It has enhanced many of our skills and all of us have learnt so much from it.

"Our team consists of four members and has really grown stronger by learning the importance of working as a group."

They were mentored by Charlie Panayi of Red Squirrel Property Shop.

Members are Ronin Jayston (managing director), Harvey Newman (media director), Daniel Williams (finance director) and Bella Beeney (operations director).
