A Queen’s platinum jubilee street party raised £700 for two local charities.
More than 125 residents from the Shanklin Neighbourhood Watch area (St Boniface Cliff Road, St Martin’s Avenue, Culver Road, North Cliff Gardens, and Clarence Gardens) attended.
Entertainment included games on the green for the children,
Live music included Gavin and Claire’s duo singing 1950s music, five-piece band Making Waves playing blues and jazz, and an 18-piece band, the Happy Days Big Band, who came over from the mainland.
Everyone took their own picnic and drinks, and soaked up the atmosphere and the great weather.
Lily Green, 11, made cakes and organised a name the teddy competition along with counting the sweets in a jar. There was also a tombola and raffle.
John’s Club and KissyPuppy each received £350 each from the money raised, and were presented with their cheques on June 27.
The event was organised by Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Den Clare, Elaine Cesar and a small committee, and thanks went to Sharon from the Hideaway café for her contribution.
