NEWPORT Carnival celebrates its 100th birthday today (Saturday, July 23) at its Main Carnival Procession.

There will be several events throughout the day around Newport, including the world-famous Titan the Robot, as seen on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent.

You can catch Titan at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm in St James’ Square.

Also in the Square, market stalls will be open from 9am, David Randini, the Island’s famous magician, can be seen at 10.30am and 1.15pm, and the Scots Guard Association will perform at midday.

Organisers are calling the event the biggest carnival Newport has seen in a decade, if not ever!

A vehicle-only parade will set off from South Street shortly before the main procession, which starts at 7pm.

Caffe Isola on St James’ Street is offering 25 VIP wristbands to their exclusive VIP lounge, so no matter the weather, you will be guaranteed prime viewing of the carnival celebrations.

Shademakers, who performed at the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant, will be taking part with their 250-member group, including the now world-famous Ventnor Comic Jazz Band.

For the main event itself, South Street and High Street are popular, however, further out along Trafalgar Road and the Mall can be a quieter spot.
