THERE was plenty of hi-octane action on The Solent as the crowds came to enjoy the 61st edition of the world-famous Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race.

Spectators in their numbers descended on Cowes and Gurnard today (Sunday) to watch one the 200-mile iconic and historic powerboat race, which was won by Silverline, piloted by Drew Langdon, alongside Miles Jennings in a time of 3hrs 7mins 30secs, at an average speed of nearly 68mph.

His nearest challenger in the race — Round 4 of the 2022 UKOPRA Championship — Team 25 Dragon finished more than half an hour later.

Setting off 15 minutes later from the Royal Squadron Club lines was the Cowes-Poole-Cowes race.

The Class 3 event was won by Top Banana, piloted by Richard Jackson, crewed by Colin Gibson, who finished in 1.19.22, just over three mionutes ahead of Renegade 2.

Thanks to Allan Marsh and members of the Isle of Wight County Press Camera Club for supplying an array of superb pictures from the event.
