The County Press's own Kate Young is to take on the London Marathon next Sunday (October 2) in aid of the Wessex Cancer Trust.
Kate, 47, of Newport, was due to run the marathon in April 2020 - but the event was cancelled just a month beforehand, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said: "I got a place for the 2020 race via the ballot in the autumn of 2019, but my 2020 entry was postponed to this year, so this race has effectively been three years in the waiting - I'm very glad to be heading to the start line this time around!
"My training has been a bit patchy, so I won't be the fastest runner out there, but I'm fairly confident I'll will reach the finish line."
Kate, who is the CP's community content editor, chose Wessex Cancer Trust because the charity has helped several of her Isle of Wight friends in recent years.
She has run for Wessex Cancer Trust before, including the Winchester Half Marathon in 2018, and the Isle of Wight Challenge in 2019.
She started running in her early 40s in 2016 and has done two virtual London Marathons while waiting for her chance at the real race.
She has been part of the County Press team for 26 years and was born and brought up on the Isle of Wight.
