Home up to now has been an Isle of Wight waste disposal tip...but an Island welfare group is looking for somewhere better for a group of feral cats.

Feline Welfare Isle of Wight has launched an urgent appeal for outside, but loving homes for the 22 cats they have trapped and removed since September.

Of the nine kittens in the group, five went to the RSPCA at Godshill and four of these have found 'loving domestic homes'.

Nikki Hazelgrove, of Feline Welfare Isle of Wight, said: "We still have our wildlife cameras in situ and this will be the case until we feel there are none left at the site.

"This has been a mammoth task but we are now at the stage of desperately seeking safe outside homes for the eight remaining feral cats.

"Their ages range from seven months to adult.

"Because they are feral we are looking for outside homes at private stables, farms (if there are no cats there already) smallholdings etc. They are very unlikely to be rehomeable domestically."

Nikki, who has been rescuing cats for more than 40 years, wants people to call her on 521778 for more details if they feel they can help.

The cats are all health checked/neutered and microchipped.

She said: "Ferals deserve a decent life as do our domestics, but we really can't do this without the help of the Island community.

"We have been running a fund-raising appeal on social media to help us with the veterinary costs, cat food etc for this colony, which has raised an amazing £1,250.

"We would like to thank the Island people very much for supporting us in this way, as well as all the moral support we have received."
