AN ISLE of Wight man has been sentenced for kicking a motorcyclist in the head in a road rage incident.

Sam Allenby, of Cockleton Lane, Gurnard, admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

Ann Smout, prosecuting, explained to the court how the victim stopped to tell Allenby he had hit the rear of his bike after the defendant pulled out from a junction on Cowes Industrial Estate.

Allenby then got out of his car, kicked the motorbike and its rider to the ground, and then kicked the victim in the head.

Allenby, 38, represented himself in court. He said his view at the junction was blocked by a large van but realised last minute the motorcycle was coming and slammed on his brakes, managing to avoid a collision.

He told the court that the victim shouted at his daughter, who was sitting in the passenger seat of his car, so he got out and kicked the motorcycle and then the victim’s head.

Mrs Smout told magistrates the prosecution does not accept that the victim did anything wrong.

Allenby said: “He had a helmet on, so I think it hurt my foot more than his head.

"I’m really sorry about it. Sorry because my children saw it, and sorry because I’m standing here.

“I can only apologise, sincerely apologise. It won’t happen again.”

He got a 12-month community order to include 50 hours of unpaid work, and must pay £114 surcharge and £85 costs.
