It seems that every day there's a new scam aiming to target vulnerable people and Swindon Borough Council has now issued a warning to members of the public about a new one.
Posting on its Facebook page, the local authority indicated that scammers were calling residents who used its vital telephone alarm system Homeline, in an attempt to dupe them into handing over their card details.
It instructed anyone that receives a call asking for bank details to hang up because it would never do that over the phone.
It said: "If you receive a call from someone claiming to be Homeline, asking for bank details to change a pendant – it is a scam.
"We will never ask for bank details to change a pendant.
"Hang up the phone and please do not share any personal details."
Homeline and Homeline+ is Swindon Borough Council's home response service. It is operated by a team of experienced, professional Homeline Response Officers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
It is designed to assist elderly and vulnerable people that live in the community, like those in council-run housing schemes.
