AN ISLE of Wight binge drinker shouted at and kicked a police constable while being arrested following an unrelated dispute.

Finley Mulholland, of West Street, Wroxall, pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker when heard at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court.

Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that Mulholland was arrested at 3am on November 26 on an unrelated matter and shouted at a constable before kicking the inside of his right ankle twice.

The officer was not injured in the incident.

For Mulholland, Michael McGoldrick said his client had been in an argument at another address and, trying to defuse the situation, had returned home.

The dispute was reported to police, who later came to collect Mulholland from his home.

Mr McGoldrick said the 24-year-old, who had remained sober since the incident, was a binge drinker who suffered from mental health issues.

Mulholland said: “I am absolutely sorry about what happened, and it will never happen again.”

He was ordered to pay £345, including £50 compensation to the officer, a £150 fine, costs and surcharge.
