This year has seen extraordinary scenes for royal family enthusiasts, from the joy of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations at the beginning of June to the sadness at her death in September.
Here on the Isle of Wight, we have had five official visits by Queen Elizabeth II, in 1965, 1968, 1987, 2004 and 2012 — and you can find stories about these visits here on our website, or in our special commemorative book.

Earlier this year, the Isle of Wight was proud to be represented by Shademakers and Ventnor Comic Jazz Band at the platinum jubilee celebrations in London.

Villages and towns across the Isle of Wight held their own jubilee parties, beacon lightings and parades too.
Following the Queen’s death in September, many Islanders visited London to pay their respects — myself included.
People went to the floral tributes in Green Park and Hyde Park, or saw her lying in state, while some Islanders were even at the funeral procession.

Life goes on and next May we look forward to King Charles III’s coronation — and a chance to make more memories.
