Isle of Wight born lawn greens bowler Lucy Beere is having a marvellous month — in the running for a top sporting award, just after being awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List.

Lucy, 40, a resident of Guernsey, has been nominated for the Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year 2022. The public vote opened last week.

Notably, Lucy won the Island's fourth-ever silver medal in the singles at the Commonwealth Games in August last year — Guernsey's first in 28 years.

It was the fourth time Lucy had represented Guernsey at a Commonwealth Games — competing in 2010 in Delhi, 2014 in Glasgow and 2018 in the Gold Coast of Australia.

Her MBE is in recognition for her services to sport in Guernsey.

Lucy picked up the sport as a teenager on the Island — introduced to it by her grandparents — playing short mat, which has been a very big part of her sporting life.

She learned to play bowls with Newport, Shanklin and Cowes Medina bowling clubs.

Her career has been marked by success — 256 international caps for Bowls Guernsey and 18 international medals, including four European Championship golds and being crowned the Indoor Women’s Singles world champion in 2018.

Lucy, who has lived in Guernsey almost 16 years and plays for its Vale Rec club, is also a former U25 World Pairs Championships winner in 2008.
