AN ISLE of Wight man accused of embarking on a campaign of high-level violence – assaulting and throttling his ex-girlfriend – will stand trial later this year.

Kane Smith, of Rew Street, Gurnard, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old denied two counts of intentional strangulation and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, between July 9 and September 4 of last year.

Mr Smith is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, punching and headbutting her, grabbing her by the throat and kicking her, among other actions.

He saw his case adjourned for a pre-trial and preparation hearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on March 13.

Mr Smith was granted conditional bail.
