The Isle of Wight's Hannah Minghella has followed in the footsteps of her late father, acclaimed director Anthony Minghella, by winning big at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Hannah was a producer on The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, which scooped Best Animated Short Film at last night's ceremony.

It follows the film's recent success at last month's BAFTAs, where it claimed the Best British Short Animation.

Based on the book by Charlie Mackesy, the story follows a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse, as they create an unexpected friendship and travel together in the boy's search for home.

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse can be watched on BBC iPlayer, here.

Hannah, who works at J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and was born in Ryde, was among the producers on the short film.

Last night's win comes 27 years after Hannah's father Anthony won the Academy Award for Best Director for his movie, The English Patient. The film picked up nine awards that evening.

Gioia Minghella-Giddens, Hannah's aunty and Anthony's sister, posted to say: "Tears of joy here - so proud of our beautiful Hannah.

"Gorgeous niece, god-daughter, and now Oscar-winner!

"Wow! Just wish your daddy were here to see it, darling."

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse faced competition from four other films, including Ice Merchants and The Flying Sailor.

Actors Idris Elba and Tom Hollander were among the famous faces to voice characters.
