A popular convenience store in Ryde has reopened as a supermarket giant after a brief refurbishment saw it close last month.
McColl’s, off Union Street, closed on April 19 and reopened on Friday (April 28) as a Morrisons Daily.
Last year, the McColl’s convenience chain was bought by Morrisons after a rescue deal was sealed to buy its troubled rival for £190 million.
A total of 132 McColl’s stores are expected to close across the country, making Ryde’s store one of the lucky few to be given another chance.
The takeover meant all ten staff members have kept their jobs, and the store will potentially be hiring more in the future.
The store’s chilled, frozen and mains sections have all been expanded, with increased fresh products available, including fruit and vegetables, with the post office also remaining at the site.
Prices at Morrisons Daily are similar to that of the Morrisons supermarkets found in Lake and Newport.
Mark Feakes, store supervisor, said: “Store manager Claire and the team of Louise, Tasha, Nick, Wendy and Julie have been working hard over the last nine days to get it ready.
“The new Morrisons ranges, which include more fresh products and a free-from range as well, now give the customers a varied selection of new ranges.”
The store is open seven days a week, from 5.30am – 11pm on Monday through to Saturday and 7am – 10.30pm on Sunday.
