SHOPS in the Isle of Wight's county town of Newport have been decorating their windows red, white and blue to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Businesses in the town centre have got into the spirit of the occasion by adding a welcoming splash of royalty to its main shopping streets.

Jess Lewis and Alex Capel spent the best part of a day taking their already impressive High Street shop, Artisan, onto higher levels to mark the royal occasion on Saturday.

Co-owner Jess, 29, said: "The Coronation is a really important milestone. Alex and I need to celebrate it by bringing some joy to the High Street."

Staff at the British Heart Foundation charity shop, almost opposite Artisan, created a fabulous royal display certain to get any passer-by feeling patriotic.

A little further down the High Street, The Florist, already looked resplendent with beautiful seasonal flowers, but adding vibrant touches of red, white and blue, including Union Jacks for that touch of class.

It's owner, Gunda Gulbe, 39 — a Latvian who bought the shop 18 months ago after she fell in love with the Island while on holiday — said she wanted to mark the new monarch's big day the only way he knew how.

In St Thomas's Square, Masters of Disguise could not hide their support of the new king, while florists, Summer Lilly's, in St James's Street, added a splash of royal colour to their shop front.

Gods Providence House Tea Rooms in St Thomas's Square featured a right royal tea party, featuring charming hand-knitted royal items, while Steve Robson, who owns Visual Impact, showed why he is the 'king' of fashion in Newport by wearing a crown.
