REFUSALS to comply with a probation order by not carrying out unpaid work, landed an Isle of Wight man in court.

Lee Scott Millington, of Boniface Cliff Road, Shanklin, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a 12-month community order, made by the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court, on December 6 last year.

The 33-year-old, formerly of Ashey Road, Ryde, admitted failing to attend unpaid work sessions on March 11 and 18.

Millington was ordered to complete 80 hours' unpaid work, after he had pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit though drugs last year.

The bench was told his compliance on the order had thus far been poor, having completed just 16 hours.

For Millington, Jim Osborne said his client had not ony lost his driving licence at his last court appearance, he also lost his job.

"It had a severe impact on him. He couldn't pay the rent, he lost his house, and he couldn't pay for the storage of his furniture, which he lost as well. He also had to sell his mobile phone. He lost everything," said Mr Osborne.

"He was sofa surfing for a couple of months and now he's managed to turn his life around with a new job in Cowes."

Magistrates agreed with probation to allow the order to continue, but added ten hours of unpaid work to his total, with £60 costs.
