A FIELD of around 150 took part in the Brading 10K — one of the headline events to this year's Isle of Wight Festival of Running programme.
Organised by Ryde Harriers, the Brading 10K, a ten-kilometre race, proved to be a superb battle between defending champion Joe Wade, and Chris Newham, who are fellow club members.
They matched each other stride for stride over the first 8km, raising the prospect of a sprint finish.
However, as Joe entered Ryde, he managed to pull ahead and continued to build on it to eventually win by 31 seconds, with a time of 33mins 58secs.
Charlie Metcalfe, also of Ryde Harriers, was the first female home in 38.40 — an excellent ninth overall — which placed her almost nine minutes ahead of the next female competitor, Claire Alchin.
As a club, Ryde Harriers performed well on their 'home' roads, taking six of the top ten places.
Results are available on the Ryde Harriers website.
