An Isle of Wight cocktail bar has announced it will close at the end of this month and a new restaurant will open in its place.

Long Island Cocktail Bar, based in Newport, has confirmed August will be its last month trading under its current name.

The bar serves Mexican and American food and is based upstairs at 24 Holyrood Street.

A post on the Facebook page said: "We’re announcing this to give all our customers the chance to use any vouchers they may have and a chance to visit us one last time!

"We would like to thank all our customers who have supported us over the years."

Sister company, Texmexico, will also shut, it's been confirmed.

In June 2022, former employee and head chef, Andy Wyatt, took over the restaurant.

The post adds that a new restaurant and cocktail bar will open in Long Island's place.

More information is expected in the next few weeks and work is likely to take place over the coming months.

Newport Ale House, which is also based in the building, is not affected.
