A PROPERTY management company owner on the Isle of Wight has been banned from driving for a year after she made a failed overtaking manoeuvre while more than four times the drug-drive limit in a Peugeot van.

Faye Owen, of Silver Trees, Shanklin, admitted charges of drug driving and driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, on Newport High Street, on March 16.

At around 12.20pm that day, police investigating another matter in the town centre saw Owen, at the junction of St James' Street and High Street, misjudge an overtaking manoeuvre and drive into a bus lane.

She failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis and was arrested, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

There were no passengers in the 38-year-old's vehicle, but there was a high level of impairment, Ms Stone explained.

At Newport Police Station, Owen provided a reading of 9.1ug/L for a cannabis derivative in her blood. The legal limit is 2ug/L.

For Owen, Oscar Vincent said his client had built up a successful property management company, but had used cannabis to manage back and hip pain.

She now uses prescribed medication, said Mr Vincent.

Magistrates banned Owen from driving for a year and fined her £400, with £85 costs and a £160 surcharge.
