An Isle of Wight man admitted he had been smoking cannabis into the early hours of the morning on the same day he was arrested by police for drug driving.

Jamin Woodmore, of Newport Road, Cowes, pleaded guilty to drug driving at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 15.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said police were patrolling Newport Road at 7.15pm on April 20 when they stopped the 30-year-old’s Peugeot 207.

Officers said there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle and Woodmore admitted he had been smoking cannabis the day before and into the early hours, Ms Stone told the court.

Woodmore took a roadside DrugWipe, which came back positive for cannabis.

A blood sample taken at the police station revealed he had 9mg/l of cannabis in his blood when the legal limit is 2.

Barry Arnett, defending, said had his client realised he was over the limit, he would not have used his car – and that the cannabis reading was ‘not particularly high’.

Magistrates disqualified Woodmore for 12 months and ordered him to pay a £415 fine, a £166 surcharge and costs of £85.
