Scores of Islanders watched on as carnival fever gripped St Helens yesterday (Monday).

A parade of colour and music weaved its way through the village.

Schools, families and carnival queens were among those donning their best costumes.

Sandown Carnival Queens took first place at this year's carnival, while Ventnor came second and Ryde in third.

It was the second consecutive year the event has been held, following a two year hiatus.

Part of a wider event ­— the St Helens Sports and Carnival ­— festivities were also held on the Green earlier in the day.
