Isle of Wight-based speciality coffee roaster Jasper’s Coffee has been named among the top food and drink producers globally this year, picking up a highly prized 2-star Great Taste Award.
A total of 14,195 products from 109 countries were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process, with the Island company’s strawberries and cream medium roast blend proving a big hit with judges.
Made with 100% speciality grade and fully traceable arabica sourced from Ethiopia, Brazil and Indonesia, the Peak Espresso Blend was one of 5,904 products to receive a Great Taste Award this year.
Only awarded to producers who constantly produce outstanding products, the award means Jasper’s Coffee maintains its position as a Great Taste Producer.
Emily, head of coffee at Jasper’s, said: “We are thrilled to have won a Great Taste Award for our Peak Espresso Blend.
“After our Buxom Blend won its second Great Taste Award in 2022, highlighting its distinct caramel, praline and dark chocolate notes, we wanted to showcase some fruitier flavours this time around.
“Award-winning coffee starts with the producer, and the star of the show in our Peak Blend is the Natural Ethiopian beans grown by smallholder Mustafa Abakeno near Agaro in the Jimma Zone of Western Ethiopia.
“It is thanks to the handwork of our coffee producers like Mustafa that we are able to source top quality green coffee beans to craft our new blends.”
This year, judging took place over 89 days in Dorset and London, with a panel of more than 500 judges putting the products to the test.
Jasper’s Coffee is available to purchase from various Island businesses, including Town Choice Cafe, Harvey Browns, Farm Shop & No.8 Cafe and The Freshwater Coffee House.
