VOLUNTEERS gathered to make up hundreds of much-needed sandbags for flood victims from across the Isle of Wight.
In what turned out to be a great community effort, sand was donated by Wight Building Materials and bags donated by supermarkets in Newport, which included Tesco, Morrison's and Asda, as well as Sydenhams.
People gave up their time to shovel sand into bags at Seaclose Park in Newport, so anyone who needed some to shore up their homes under threat of flooding, could collect them.

Some of the volunteers took sandbags as far afield as Bembridge, Brighstone and Brading.
Pizza Hut in Newport did their bit by donating pizzas for the busy volunteers.
On Facebook, Robert Nelson summed up the response by many followers, saying: "Absolute heroes every one of you. Well done, total respect."
