An Isle of Wight drug driver has been banned from the roads after he overtook an unmarked police car at high speed while under the influence of drugs.
Robert Godley, of Manor Crescent, Newport, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 27, after changing his plea to guilty on October 6.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, said the 42-year-old overtook an unmarked police car in his Vauxhall Zafira at 11.40pm on March 27, and was seen swerving across the road at high speed.
Ms Miller told the court officers pulled him over and gave him a roadside DrugWipe test, which came back positive for cocaine.
A further blood test at Newport Police Station revealed Godley was over the cocaine and BZE limit.
Michael McGoldrick, defending, said his client suffers from mental health issues, including PTSD, but had been showing good engagement with the probation service.
Magistrates handed Godley an 18-month disqualification, along with an 18-month community order to include 20 rehabilitation days and nine months of drug rehabilitation.
Godley must also pay a £60 fine, £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge to the court.
