An Isle of Wight man has been banned from driving after he tried to evade police in his BMW while twice over the drug drive limit and with a child in his front seat.
Cameron Goodman-Wright, of Lind Street, Ryde, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court for sentencing on Friday, November 3, after previously pleading guilty to drug driving and failing to stop when required by police.
Munayah Hassan, prosecuting, said the 23-year-old accelerated away from police on Ashey Road in Ryde after they set their blue lights flashing, using a garage forecourt in an attempt to escape.
Ms Hassan told the court police eventually caught up to Goodman-Wright’s silver BMW on Smallbrook Lane and discovered he had a child in the front seat.
Goodman-Wright was given a roadside DrugWipe test, which came back positive for cannabis. A further blood test at the police station revealed he was over twice the legal limit.
Michael McGoldrick, defending, said his client initially pulled over to allow police to get past him but released they were after him, and sped off.
Magistrates handed Goodman-Wright a 28-month driving ban and a 12-month community order, to include 15 rehabilitation days and 100 hours of unpaid work.
He must pay a £114 surcharge and £85 costs.
