THE Royal Solent Yacht Club in Yarmouth hope a new video, commissioned to help promote one of the most popular sailing events off the Isle of Wight — the Taittinger Regatta, will whet the appetite for more local sailors to take part in 2024.
The club's commodore, Martyn Collinson, commissioned Maritime Filming to produce the eight-minute video over this summer's Taittinger Regatta weekend.
"The regatta has grown out of all expectations and become one of the major regattas on The Solent — if not, along the South Coast," he said.

"The Taittinger started quite small and this year was our 15th. We welcome more than a thousand sailors from across the South Coast.
"It's a fun weekend for families and sailors alike. That's what they come for — not just the racing.
"The Royal Solent Yacht Club could not have done it without our amazing staff and over 80 enthusiastic club supporters, who believe in the club and our ability to lay on events such as this.
"We had the film produced, not particularly to increase membership — although it will be nice if it achieves a bit of that.
"It was to show what the club and its members are capable of, and what a great harbour and community we have in Yarmouth and how we all work together to create something fun and very special.
"Today, social media is the best way to display this to the world, which is why we did it."
Yarmouth harbourmaster Tim Adams said the regatta "creates a wonderful atmosphere" from the "enormous amount of yachts and yachtsmen the regatta brings to Yarmouth."
Simon Van der Byl, a senior race officer at the regatta this year, echoed their sentiments.
He said: "The fact good quality sailors come to Yarmouth to enjoy it is because they know it'll be well run and it will be fun."
Next year's event will be held between July 12-14.
