Military electronic warfare exercises are scheduled to take place off the east coast of the Isle of Wight next week.

  • UPDATE: The schedule has since been revised to take place between November 13-16 between 10am to 4pm.

According to NOTAM, or 'Notice to Airmen', the exercises are planned to take place 1.7 nautical miles off Sandown.

The affected area of the exercises covers a 17-nautical mile radius, which includes the entire Island - except for The Needles.

The military exercises will start at 10am next Thursday (November 23) and are scheduled to finish by 4pm.

A NOTAM, or ‘Notice to Airmen’, is used to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards on a flight route or location.

They can be useful for aviation enthusiasts, giving them advanced warnings about upcoming events, including Red Arrow displays or military flight exercises.

In recent months, NATO has been spearheading electronic warfare exercises off the coast of southern Spain, which included British Falcon DA-20 aircraft.
