Yesterday (Wednesday) the Isle of Wight Met Service said the east and south of the Island would see rain and, towards central and western parts, perhaps a 'sleety mix'.

Forecaster Jamie Russell said: "A temperature of 1°C or below would be needed for this to fall as snow, but at the moment it looks like being closer to 2°C in the coldest areas."

Hollington Michy caught this video from Newport, between the Stag Inn Pub and the County Showground...

It is unlikely the snow will stick around, though.

Any hopes of a white Christmas have been dashed. Jamie Russell said any fall nearer to December 25 is likely to be on higher ground and, 'at the moment', he does not expect 'proper snow' in the near future.

Although it means it is unlikely to be a white Christmas here this year, there is a glimmer of hope Islanders might see some snow after the big day.

Jamie said there are early hints it could turn colder again after a mild, wet and windy spell.
