Starting Monday, December 11, the road improvement project by Island Rods will involve strengthening the highway foundations and deep excavations to rectify concerns surrounding the deterioration of the road surface.

A 24-hour road closure will be in place throughout the road, but access to Drill Hall Road properties will be maintained ‘if it is safe to do so’.

Island Roads said a 24-hour road closure will be in place throughout the road by access to Drill Hall Road car park (Britannia car park) and properties will be, "maintained as long as it is safe to do so."

Residents have received letters detailing the work and the likely effects it will have on access.

A spokesperson said: “The work involves us having to excavate at depth, so unfortunately, it won’t be possible to re-open the road again at the end of each shift.

“This work is, however, designed to reduce the need for future road repair.

“We would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation and understanding.”
