A Co-operative store on the Isle of Wight has been forced to close after a window was smashed in an alleged burglary.

The shop on Avenue Road, Freshwater was broken into overnight, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.

It is thought alcohol was stolen, police said.

Officers are investigating and enquiries remain ongoing.

Barriers are in place outside the entrance to the Southern Co-op shop.

A sign has also been placed on the window saying 'closed until further notice'.
