An attempted break-in at a family-run Isle of Wight restaurant and bar has prompted a police investigation.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was called about damage at The Hideaway, Shanklin on Tuesday, December 12.

Officers received a report at 12.45am.

Police said two glass doors at the St Boniface Cliff Road premises were smashed.

No items were believed to have been taken, the force said.

It is believed the incident occurred at around 11.30pm on Monday (11).

A post on the Hideaway's Facebook page, aimed at the individual, said: "Be warned - it won't be Father Christmas knocking at your door this Christmas, it'll be the police."

Police said the attempted break-in is currently under investigation.
