A TALENTED young dancer from the Isle of Wight has been chosen to be part of the Team England group taking part in the 2024 Dance World Cup competition.
Shanklin girl, Jess Burfitt, made the grade and was the judges' choice, after she came up against strong competition from more than 100 other hopefuls from around the country.
The 11-year-old, who has been training at the MLD Studio in Ryde, since she was just aged two, regularly competes regionally and nationally — with great success.
It is considered a huge achievement for the junior dancer — earning selection as a soloist, representing Team England at the Dance World Cup, which takes place in Prague in June next year.
On learning the great news of her selection, Jess said: “I am so excited to represent England at the Dance World Cup.
"I never imagined I would qualify. This is a dream come true."
This year has been Jess’s most busy and successful competitive year yet.
The youngster, part of of Red Funnel ferries' junior ambassador scheme, says thanks to the support she receives from the company, she has been able to attend even more mainland qualifiers and competitions than ever before.
But most importantly, Jess has won plenty of silverware in the process.
"I am so grateful to Michelle Davis at MLD Studio for all the time and opportunities she has given me over the years, to my parents for supporting me and to Red Funnel as my travel sponsor,” adds Jess.
