The Met Office has put in place a weather warning from 3am – 6pm on Wednesday for strong winds.
A spell of strong southwesterly winds are likely, says the national forecaster, affecting areas in the west of England before spreading across to the Island through the course of the day.
Gusts could reach 50-60pmh, with a risk of 65-70mph across some exposed headlands.
Some coastal routes, seafronts and coastal communities will likely be affected by spray and/or large waves.
The Met Office has also warned of some ‘short-term loss of power’ and other services.
Red Funnel has already confirmed that cancellations are expected due to the strong winds and ongoing maintenance of its car ferry, Red Falcon.
Wightlink and Hovertravel are yet to announce any potential disruption to services.
