A search and rescue operation is underway today (Thursday, December 28) amid reports of a person in the water off the Isle of Wight.
HM Coastguard organised the response following a report of a person in difficulty in the water off Freshwater Bay.
Emergency teams were alerted at 9.35am, and a multi-agency response to the area soon followed.
The RNLI's all-weather lifeboat from Yarmouth arrived at the scene, as well as the Needles, Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams.
The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was also sent.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been alerted.
