THE three intrepid Isle of Wight rowers taking on the biggest challenge of their lives for charity — the 3,000-mile World's Toughest Row across the Atlantic — are almost in sight of the finish line in the Caribbean.

The Mermaid Atlantic crew of Chris Mannion, who owns iSurf; Paul Berry, a Ventnor longshoreman and firefighter; and Xavier Baker, the co-founder of the Isle of Wight Distillery, have just 158 miles to go to reach English Harbour in Antigua.

In their most recent update, the crew were aiming to reach the finish line on Tuesday next week, but with very good trade winds behind them, they could arrive as early as tomorrow (Thursday). 

They are currently sitting in third place in the Trio class.

The trio, who set off on the epic row from La Gomera on December 13, are hoping to raise at least £7,500 in aid of three charities close to their hearts — The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, The Seahorse Trust and Surfers Against Sewage.
