Residents at an Isle of Wight care home were feeling the love this Valentine’s Day as the home was transformed into a haven of affection and nostalgia.
Old Charlton House in Cowes was decorated with an array of hearts, some lovingly crafted by the residents themselves.
The dining room tables were elegantly decorated with hearts and crimson roses, with each resident greeted with a sweet chocolate heart treat.
The celebration delved into cherished memories of love and companionship, with residents reminiscing about their romantic escapades with their beloved partners.
One heart-warming tale shared was that of Henry, who, by chance, met his wife – who lived in Cornwall – on a train journey.
Despite initially parting ways, fate reunited them on another train, leading to a whirlwind romance culminating with five daughters and 73 years of marriage together.
In the evening, Dave Plummer entertained residents with his soulful saxophone renditions of timeless love songs, with residents eagerly singing along, clapping and dancing.
The festivities continued with Valentine-themed activities, including bingo, group word searches, and quizzes.
However, in a humorous turn of events, two gentlemen found solace in an afternoon nap, prompting light-hearted speculation about their past marital tactics!
Reflecting on the day's festivities, resident Brenda expressed her delight, saying: "It was lovely, I enjoyed it all, it was a super party."
Nora echoed similar sentiments, praising the staff for creating a memorable and special day for all.
Marilyn commended the beautiful decorations, which added to the enchanting atmosphere.
Debbie Webb, activity coordinator, said: “It was important to us that we created a special day full of fun and laughter that celebrated their partners who are no longer with them, and from the comments from the residents and their families, we managed to achieve just that.”
