THE imagination of Isle of Wight students came vividly to life with some eye-catching performances in this year's Dance Live! competition in Portsmouth.

The event featured several Island schools, who performed at the Guildhall in front of big audiences. 

On Thursday, February 1, Broadlea Primary School in Lake, won the Technical Award, with their performance, entitled Alice in Movieland — about an alternate dream she has, of going on a new adventure through the movies.

Ryde Academy 'turned to crime' on Monday, February 5 — placing second with their take on the real-life tale of 1920s bank robbers, Bonnie and Clyde.

The following day, Christ the King College performed Maleficent: Vengeful Devotion — an interpretation of the popular Disney tale, in which she unleashes an almost unbreakable curse upon a knight's daughter. 

The Isle of Wight Education Federation, who performed on Wednesday, February 7, won the Technical Award with their performance, entitled What is Family? — a study of the wrongly negative stereotypes associated with fostering.

The Federation of Nettlestone and Newchurch performed A Snapshot in Time: Past, Present and Future, the next day, winning their heat.

The Spirit of Valentine, a routine about famous Island chimney sweep Valentine Gray, was performed by the children of Cowes Primary School on Friday, February 9.

Also that day, The Bay CE School, Sandown, came third in their heat, with their entry, Around the World in Eco-Ways — a routine that focussed on an exciting competition to build an eco-friendly vehicle to travel around the world, inspired by the travels of Phileas Fogg.
