An Isle of Wight primary school is being supported by TV comedy writer Raymond Allen, almost a year and a half after the death of the Some Mothers Do ‘Av ‘Em creator.

£1,000 has been donated to Dover Park school by Ray's widow, Nancy Allen, who raised some of the money herself.

The primary was also handed a signed photograph of David Walliams and nine of his books, also signed.

The school says the generous gift will support its ongoing efforts to provide the best educational experience possible and foster a love of reading.

The donation will be spent on new library books at the school in Dover Street, Ryde, as well as on the renovation of a stage in the playground.

To celebrate, the children were treated to clips from Ray's famous show, which starred Michael Crawford.

Headteacher Jon Kirby said: "This incredible sum of money will make a huge difference and we can't thank Nancy enough for her kindness and support."
